Energy consumption comparison of compression heat dryers


To compare the energy consumption of several common compressed heat dryers, this article briefly describes the regeneration process of other dryers. The thermal regeneration dryer does not require heating during the regeneration process. Part of the treated clean compressed air is depressurized and flows into the regeneration tower. Using the pressure swing adsorption principle, the adsorbent is desorbed. The regenerated compressed air removes the moisture from the adsorbent and is discharged through a silencer. The regeneration gas consumption accounts for 20%~25% of the total processed gas.

To compare the energy consumption of several common compressed heat dryers, this article briefly describes the regeneration process of other dryers.  

Athermal regenerative dryers do not require heating during regeneration. Part of the treated clean compressed air flows into the regeneration tower after pressure reduction. Using the principle of pressure swing adsorption, the adsorbent is desorbed. The regenerated compressed air removes the moisture from the adsorbent and is discharged through a silencer. Regeneration gas consumption accounts for 20%~25% 。  

The regeneration process of a micro dryer also goes through four stages. The difference lies in the heating stage, which requires an external heat source. The compressed air used in the heating stage is treated clean compressed air, and the gas consumption of the regeneration process accounts for approximately 7%。  

The compressed air used for heating the compressed heat dryer comes from the external environment, and clean compressed air is required for the cold blowing stage. The gas consumption of the regeneration process accounts for approximately 7%。  

An adsorption dryer with a capacity of 60m/min is selected as the basis for comparison, and an oil-free screw air compressor is used. Air compressor motor power 315kW discharge pressure 0.75MPa discharge volume 51.3m/min and air compressor. Table 1 lists the energy consumption data of various dryers.

The compressed air flow rate entering the compressed heat dryer is affected by the air compressor discharge volume and the hydraulic characteristics of the compressed air network between the air compressor and the dryer. The compressed air temperature entering the compressed heat dryer is related to the discharge temperature of the air compressor and the heat exchange between the equipment, the network, and the outside world.  

The energy consumption of the adsorption dryer mainly occurs in the heating and cold blowing stages of the adsorbent. For the sake of comparison, all energy consumption is converted into electrical energy. The conclusion is that the total regeneration electricity consumption, unit electricity consumption, and energy efficiency ratio of the athermal regenerative dryer are low, the energy efficiency ratio of the athermal regenerative dryer is low, and the dryer energy efficiency ratio is low. The micro-heat regenerative dryer and the blower heating regenerative dryer are in the middle.  

Applications of compressed heat dryers:

The general process flow of a compressed air station is: air compressor - pre-storage tank - pre-filter - dryer - post-filter - post-storage tank - compressed air network.

Since the regeneration temperature of the adsorbent is above 130 ℃, and the regeneration effect decreases sharply below 100 ℃, the compressed air temperature entering the compressed heat dryer should not be lower than 110 ℃. Therefore, it is impossible to install a pre-filter before the dryer, so the oil content of the air entering the dryer must be controlled at a low level. Only centrifugal air compressors and oil-free screw compressors can meet this requirement.

When the gas load fluctuates greatly, the equipment needs to be improved, changed to a dew point control method, and auxiliary electric heating added to prevent the dew point control method from failing and automatically switch to a micro-heat regenerative dryer.
